Low figures for Bo'ness trio

EXPENSES claims for Bo'ness councillors show that 2008-09 Labour's Adrian Mahoney got a salary of £21,272.04, higher than the basic £15,837.96 rate as he is leisure, tourism and community convener.

Mr Mahoney received 646.34 in mileage and 15.20 for ''other allow-ances and expenses''.

He said: "I don't ask the council to reimburse me for travel within my ward, but have claimed expenses to cover some of the travel costs – not all – to meetings across Scotland.''

John and Harry Constable (both SNP) were each paid a 15,837.96 salary.

Harry was reimbursed 5064.80 making him the highest-claiming expenses councillor across Falkirk.

John Constable, who was reimbursed 173.80, said his and Harry's claims related to public transport.

His brother has Parkinson's Disease, which prevents him using buses, so taxis are taken to and from the council and on official business. John does not drive and the two taxi-share if they can.

John said: ''My brother and I make very few claims on the public purse.''
