Linithgow's year in front of the lens ends on a high
IT'S been a year of blowing gales, icy winds, snow-covered ground and beaming sunshine.
Now, after 365 days of early morning, late evening, land-based, water-based and even sky-high photography, the shutter has closed on Martine Stead's amazing project.
The Linlithgow amateur photographer, left, set out last October to take a pic-ture of Linlithgow Loch every day for a year. As word spread about her plans, her website gallery of photos attracted thousands of visitors.
Amateur photographer Martine then put on an exhibition at Annet House, which has also drawn hundreds of visitors, produced a DVD of the pictures with a backing track of the Cockleroy tune, Linlithgow Loch, and will update the DVD in time for sale at the Advent Fayre.
This week Martine (43), of the High Street, said: ''I have mixed feelings on it coming to an end, I will miss talking to the dog-walkers and waving to the fishermen.''
Over the 12 month period Martine took an incredible 80,000 pictures, uploading between one and four daily to the website.
One highlight was her chance to try aerial photography with Linlithgow pilot Billy Anderson, who took her up in his two-seater Rans aircraft.
She said: ''I was in this tiny little plane – the only really hair-raising bit was when I had to reach out to open the door to take the pictures, as I didn't want to shoot through the perspex window.
''We went round the town a few times – it was just incredible, I have never experienced anything like it. It felt like being a bird.''
Martine is now set to update her DVD, and the Heritage Trust in Linlithgow is working on fresh ideas for her photos.
She said: ''I am really quite excited . . . I thought it would just fizzle out, but that's not the case.''
Martine thanks Billy Anderson, Annet House and Celebrate Linlithgow for all their support.
