Canadian director comes to the Hippodrome in Bo'ness
FROM Hollywood to the Hippodrome, via Alaskan snow-mobile drive-throughs and Indian village screenings, a new documentary aims to capture the magic of movie-going.
Award-winning Canadian film-maker Mark Power was at the Bo'ness cinema to shoot interviews with Hippodrome aficionados.
And he revealed his dream was to return and screen the film.
He is travelling the world for the 'Sacred Cinema' project that is set to broadcast on Canadian TV next Oscars' day and be shown at UK film festivals.
In Bo'ness, enthusiastic locals gathered for front row interviews.
Bo'ness Academy pupil Samantha Cargill (15), a member of youth programming and movie-making group Big Screen Bo'ness, and former ice cream seller Christine Raeburn (64) shared their stories with Mark.
Also in front of the cameras were Pearl Cameron of Henry Street and Linlithgow Road's Eleanor McLean. They took part in a Workers' Educational Association documentary to record Hippodrome memories that schoolkids can now access through an archive.
Gareth Jones, architect of the Hippodrome's 2m makeover, Adrian Mah-oney, Falkirk Council's leisure, tourism and communities convener and cinema projectionist Ian Kerr completed the line-up.
Director Mark (36) said: "My heart just bloomed to know that places like this are still around, and that somebody cares enough to invest in the cinema.
"It intrigued me that when it was restored it made the news and also that Falkirk Council took an interest in operating it.
"Where I'm from there are almost no single screen cinemas left, it's all multiplexes. I'd like other municipalities to follow suit. It's not just a screen and speakers, there's a real reverence."
Mark, who also took shots of the Friday night Harry Potter audience, added: "My dream is to come back and to screen the film in all the places we've been to."
Councillor Mahoney said: "The film will be showcasing great and unique movie theatres and it's quite an accolade for Mark to come here. I hope we make the final cut!"
