Bo'ness nets rare butterfly

A BUTTERFLY species was spreading its wings when it arrived in Bo'ness recently for a summer holiday.

Experts have confirmed it's the first sighting of a Holly Blue butterfly – usually found in the south of England – so far north-westerly.

Angus Smith of Braehead Grove said: "I was actually photographing bumblebees in my garden and saw this butterfly and thought 'Oh my goodness!'"

Angus (79) said: "I knew right away it wasn't a common butterfly. I emailed the picture to Butterfly Conservation and they confirmed it was a Holly Blue and that the butterfly was extending its range."
