A Buzz about Bo'ness
MOVIE bosses have been praised for allowing the historic Hippodrome Cinema in Bo'ness to screen Toy Story 3 in the first week of its UK release.
The animated blockbuster – following the exploits of plastic spaceman Buzz Lightyear and his sidekick Woody – opens at the Hope Street venue this Friday, July 23.
"It's great that our friends at Disney have given us the film in the week it's launched across the country," said Councillor Adrian Mahoney, Falkirk Council's leisure convener.
"There's literally a 'Buzz' about the town – with a neighbouring restaurant offering themed food, and staff inside the cinema on hand to collect unwanted toys for charity.
"We hope lots of local people will enjoy seeing Toy Story 3 in their local cinema."
The third instalment of the Toy Story movies sees Andy – the owner of toys Buzz and Woody - all grown up and going off to college.
His toys are sent on a 'playdate with destiny' in the hands of terrorising toddlers at the local day care centre.
"People asked for more children's movies during school holidays and we've tried to deliver just that," said Councillor Mahoney.
"The Hippodrome is a smaller cinema – so sometimes we have to wait a week or two for new releases.
"Of course, many of our loyal customers are happy to wait to enjoy a great movie inside Scotland's first purpose-built cinema.
"But it's also great to get a new film in the week it comes out. I hope it's well received at the Hippodrome."
If, like Andy, your little ones have out-grown some of their old playthings, the Hippodrome has teamed up with Good Green Fun - a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), to help you find a new home for unwanted toys.
Customers are being asked to bring unwanted toys to the Hippodrome for any screening of 'Toy Story 3' from Friday, July 23 to Thursday, August 5.
Toys collected will be donated to Good Green Fun. Please note that donations of soft toys cannot be accepted.
Said Councillor Mahoney: "It is estimated that around 40 million toys are discarded annually, with thousands of toys being sent to landfill in the Forth Valley area alone each year.
"Many of these toys could be recycled and reused by others.
"Thanks to Good Green Fun you can recycle these unwanted items by having them spruced up and sold to a new family, with any profits raised going to support children's charities in the Forth Valley area.
"Just bring them along to Toy Story screenings - but please, remember, no soft toys."
The cinema is also running a colouring competition for younger film fans.
Colouring sheets will be available at the Hippodrome Toy Story 3 screenings or can be downloaded from the Hippodrome web page.
Just visit www.falkirk.gov.uk/hippodrome and click the "Toy Story 3" link on the left hand side of the web page.
The winners will receive four tickets to the Saturday morning "jeely jar" film of their choice and runners up will receive a Walt Disney certificate of achievement.
Entries should be handed in to the Hippodrome, the Bo'ness Toy Shop, or the Steeple Box Office.
The deadline for competition entries is August 18, 2010.
The cinema is also inviting film fans to bring their favourite toy with them to a Toy Story 3 screening – staff say accompanying toys will be admitted free of charge!
