THIS week's classroom scene was contributed by Margaret Bullen (née Williamson) of Bo'ness and shows a Grange Primary School P1 or P2 class from around 1954-55.
The teacher was a Miss McLellen and Margaret, then of Ann Terrace, thinks the occasion was the annual class photo. From our files of 28 October, 1949
*Fire destroyed about 20 tons of hay and the roof of the stone and lime shed where it was kept at the smallholding of Mr H Blakly, Pardovan, Linlithgow last Wednesday. It is unknown how the fire started.
*A 720-ton steamer Werner II rammed the point of the West Pier at Bo'ness head on at 6am on Wednesday. Several yards of timbering were smashed and the vessel was grounded, but she was undamaged. The Werner, carrying pit props from Norway was on its first visit to Bo'ness.
*All applications which came before West Lothian Licensing court on Tuesday were granted. However a petition from licencees for the relaxation of the restriction on the use of radios in public bars was refused.
*At the weekend £550 worth of shoes were ruined at the Fashion Shoe Ship in South Street, Bo'ness. One in each pair of the most expensive shoes were slashed and a few pairs of gents shoes were stolen.
*Haddington Athletic and Bo'ness United both stirred up strong stuff at Brewery Park, Haddington on Saturday in the first round of the Brown Cup. With the usual thrills and hard knocks, BU's rearranged front line came home 5-2.

From our files of October 31, 1969
*Two 71-year-old widows are living in fear at Castleloan, Bo'ness as they are the only tenants in a block of 20 houses. Minnie Mulholland and Jean Deans live next door to each other surrounded by properties with broken windows and kicked in doors. Last week, fireworks were thrown into the house next door starting a small fire.
*Linlithgow fire brigade were in action last weekend when fire destroyed the timber yard owned by Alex Anderson who has a garage in Blackness Road, Linlithgow. Strong winds fanned the blaze in the yard near Boghall and despite the rain, the blaze raged for four hours.
*Philpstoun boy Alistair Robertson (17) was put up to play Manchester United in his first team debut for West Bromwich Albion. Manager Alan Ashman was impressed by an unfazed Alistair who faced Bobby Charlton and George Best. West Bromwich won 2-1.
*A demolition squad will move into Corbiehall, Bo'ness in the next few weeks to pull down old property and the council have invited firms to place tenders. Plans are also on the table for developments at Anne Terrace and Forth Bank.
*Linlithgow Rose strolled home to an easy 5-1 victory over Jubilee Athletic last Saturday. The Rose overclassed the visitors and given a punchier frontline, the Rose could have been in double figures.
