When household budgets are squeezed, leisure and culture activities can be the first to go - but with Falkirk Council’s Go Card scheme you could still enjoy the fun stuff for less!

Falkirk Council’s Go Card scheme is a simple-to-use discount card for those living in the Falkirk area who are eligible.

There are some great offers including free swimming, discounted gym memberships and reduced rates for sports activities alongside concession prices for FTH theatre and the Hippodrome cinema.

Here we give you the lowdown on getting hold of a card so you can get out and about and enjoy your free time in Falkirk.

What is a Go Card?

It’s a card which can be used on leisure and culture facilities offered by Falkirk Council. It will either give you free or discounted access.

Go Card holders can swim free at any council pool, including Community School pools at evenings and weekends – and if you’re under 65 you can bring two of your own children for a free swim too.

The card provides a 33% discount on Off-Peak gym sessions or gym memberships at council gym facilities in Grangemouth, Stenhousemuir, Bo'ness and the Mariner Centre, which includes swimming, fitness classes and use of all four gym facilities.

Card holders access discounted rates at any time on a variety of sports facilities including squash, table tennis, badminton, conditioning room access, short tennis, 5-a-sides, basketball and volleyball. There are no restrictions on when you can play.

And there are some concession prices (where applicable) on cinema and theatre tickets at the FTH Theatre and The Hippodrome for Go Card holders.

Can anyone get a Go Card?

Firstly you have to live within the Falkirk area, secondly you do have to fit at least one of the eligibility criteria – but it’s a long list. Check out the details below to see if you qualify:

– Those over 65

– People on Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance or Carers Allowance

– Those in receipt of Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payments, Incapacity Benefit, Employment & Support Allowance and War Disablement Pension

– Any full-time students

– Anyone claiming Widowed Parent’s Allowance

– Asylum Seekers supported under Part VI of the Immigrations and Asylum Act 1999

– Those on Universal Credit with a monthly earned income of not more than £660.

– Those on Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit, with an income of less than £17,005.

– Those on both maximum Child Tax Credit and maximum Working Tax Credit with an income of less than £7,920.

Where can I get one?

You can apply for a Go Card at any of the following facilities: Mariner Centre, Grangemouth Sports Complex, Bo'ness Recreation Centre, Grangemouth Stadium, Stenhousemuir Gym or Neighbourhood Sports Venues

You will need a passport-sized photograph and proof of eligibility to get the card

Suitable forms of proof of identity include: Photographic proof of ID, or birth certificate if you are 65+, Matriculation Card for current year if you are a full-time student, access to your online Universal Credit/Tax Credit account on a smartphone or a current Benefit Award Letter if you are eligible under one of the benefit categories.
