Take a trip down memory lane
WITH floats that would take months to create, the Marches of the 1950s were something to behold.
In this picture, submitted by Mandy Simpson, the first prize went to the showboat created by Aitken Coach Builders, and her grandfather William Stobie who was the gaffer.
The coach company often gained first prize with floats over the years including "The Cross Well" and a carousel. Mandy's mum Ella Stobie would ride the float along with her father and one of the other famous names remembered was Johnny Orr.
Mandy said: "My grandfather was a fanatic - he loved the Marches and he used to stand at the West Port waiting for the procession. My brother Fraser Simpson is now on the Deacons Court and we're very proud of our involvement with the Marches."
