Take a trip back in time in Bo'ness, Linlithgow and South Queensferry

Visiting Bo'ness Harbour in around 1919-1921 was this vessel, the Grossherzog Friederich August, which was built in 1914 as a training ship for the German merchant marine.

It was seized from Germany after World War I, before being given to Norway around 1921 as part of war reparations and renamed the Statsraad Lehmkuhl.

Still in working order it now takes part in the Tall Ships' spectacle.

The image came to us courtesy of Graham Cumming of Harrow, whose late paternal grandfather, Captain John Cumming from Tayport, was the ship's master. He held this role on behalf of the board of trade between the ship's seizure and its relocation to Norway.
