Caroline backs CF trials

HOPES for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis will be kept alive if a crucial gene therapy trial goes ahead.
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust has launched a £6 million fundraising drive for a clinical trial into gene therapy planned for next spring, testing 100 sufferers for over a year. Results will be analysed for improvements in lung function. It is the first such gene therapy trial in the world.
Caroline Geddes from Linlithgow was diagnosed at birth and she has had various tests to check her suitability for the gene trial.
Caroline (22) said: “I’ve been going to the Edinburgh Western research clinic for the last few years to do tests - you do exercises and they measure your lung capacity and monitor how you progress over time, to see if you’re good enough for the treatment. The hope is that it could be the cure and a lot of time and money has gone into this. I’m confident about it.”
